While My Toenails Dry

I'm in the middle of an all-out hundreds of products morning of beauty. I've lathered, rinsed, repeated, shaved, bleached, polished and scrubbed. I'm about to apply apply and blow-dry. Then it's a ladies' luncheon at Legal Seafood with my Mom followed by a wear-out session with the boys at our hotel pool and then it's DATE NIGHT!

I worked a double yesterday, 7 am to 11:30 pm. They offered the bonus which is an extra $15/hour plus overtime since I'd already worked 12 hours plus the evening and weekend differential for the extra four hours so I made enough to pay for our dinner, movie and hotel room. And I'm not even tired. I guess 32 suits me well.

Dec 26

A friend of mine called on the evening of the 23rd to ask if I still needed a Wii. The Walmart one couldn't be cancelled but we decided to just take it back when it comes and get the one from my friend. So Alex has been playing it since Monday afternoon. His forearms are sore. And so are Allan's! Last night the four of us bowled. It really is a family gift. It's off this morning though, enough is enough.

I'm very excited about this weekend. My mom is babysitting for my birthday and Allan and I are going all out-dinner, movie, dessert, hotel room. We haven't had a night out since May and a whole night since Alex was four.

And I'm taking the tree down today. Our house is finally done enough to put back together even though we still don't have a bathroom downstairs. The tile floor is higher than the vinyl was and we need a plumber to reinstall the toilet and sink and our contractor seems to have forgotten about us. It probably has something to do…

Me: "Quit bitching! The only people that can hear you are working on Christmas too!"

Christmas Recipes

Most of the recipes are from my Mom and of course, taste best when she makes them!

Spaghetti Fisherman
We have this for Christmas eve.
1 pound vermicelli noodles
½ pound butter
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 cup green onions, chopped
1 pound shrimp, cleaned & de-veined
1 pound crabmeat, chopped (imitation works well)
fresh grated parmesan cheese
*Cook noodles, drain and keep warm. Melt butter, add garlic and shrimp. Sauté until pink. Add the rest of ingredients and sauté until heated through. Serve over noodles and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Garlic Toast
1 loaf French bread, split lengthwise
½ cup butter
1/3 cup oil
1 small onion, chopped
2 Tbsp garlic juice
2-3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
*Melt butter, oil, garlic juice and onion. Cool. Preheat oven to 350˚. Add cheese to garlic mixture and spoon over bread. Bake for 15-30 minutes. Cut into slices.

Wii Wish You a Merry Christmas

My mom is giving our family a Nintento Wii for Christmas. I've been stalking bricks and mortar and online stores and finally found one from The only bad thing is that it's a preorder so we won't know when we'll get it (sometime between 12/28 and 2/01) so she wrapped up a picture. It's a good thing he's a patient kid. It's a big gift but as she pointed out she gets to spend a lot more time and money on my nephews since they live near her. I can't wait to hear his squeal when he opens it.

They love each other! And they both seem much better behaved in general now that they have a playmate.

10:56 AM in Pictures

I'm making challah and taking pictures. She's making popcorn balls. Dogs are napping. David is having his morning snack. Alex is taking a parents call snow day and watching Sesame Street.

Bad at Math

I bought five lottery tickets yesterday for the $168 million jackpot. Out of 25 numbers listed on my ticket one was drawn. One! I guess the lottery is a tax for people that are bad at math.

Spotted Paws

My Mom's dog has pink spots on her pads. But they still smell like corn chips.

I bought a Monopoly game from Target a couple of weeks ago for a local charity. I also bought Life for Alex. The next week both games went on sale. I took my receipt in and got a price adjustment of $1.84 on Monopoly but Life was on sale for more than I paid. And now Life is on sale for less than I paid. AND since I mailed in the receipt for a rebate I'm going to unwrap the game and take it back using the gift receipt and rebuy it and rewrap it. This time I'm getting $2 back. But my justification is that my house is being painted and my mom and I feel the need to be out of the house so it will give us something to do. Something besides eating lunch at the Lilac Blossom that is!

This Just In

Moments before I fell asleep last night Allan tells me, "Liqin Dong." One of his fellow employees. He was too reserved to post it here but I'm not! Liqin Dong! Bwa ha ha ha ha!

Alex has more gifts than David. I can't come up with another thing to get David. He's already getting diapers. He really likes those touch and feel books so I went on a shopping trip down to the basement and came back with five of them. Since he can't count I don't think he'll notice that Alex has more gifts. Even if we sit them down surrounded by their gifts and give them the go-ahead Alex will beat him at unwrapping anyway. So I'm okay with it. Are you?

Brotherly Love

This would be so much cuter were it not my bed they were invading starting at 6:45!

Unusual Names

I've worked with the following people:

Allan's list:
Swee Thing
and about 12 more that I can't remember right now.

Alex, outside a restaurant where someone had just been smoking: "It smells like my grandma!"

Well, honey, she's coming to town and she's bringing her Marlboro lights!

To Do Today

Drop off Toys for Tots
Wash our sheets
Finish Christmas cards
ATM, gas, gift card for mailman
Grocery Store
Wrap last three gifts
Five Christmas cookie lunch followed by nap

Some asshole at work stole my feminine protection products out of the bathroom AND opened and ate my crispy fried snack food product off the top of the refrigerator. Asshole.

My nephew Gage, age 4, after a visit to the dentist: "A man named Dennis told me I have to quit sucking my thumb."

Add This to My Christmas List

I want a little girl (age 3?) to play tea party with me and these fabric toys. I'd even wear heels.

Six Feet Under?

Has anyone out there seen this show? I've got it in my Netflix queue for when I'm done with Grey's Anatomy. I think I'll save it for when my mom is here. We watched Survivor on DVD one episode per night last Christmas and it was fun. Everyone does what I say anyway so I guess I'll just go for it.

Am I bossy?

I Guess I'm Not a Total Grinch

Snow Day

School was cancelled today. Snow day Monday was slightly more pleasant than Migraine Monday but no more productive.

Chicken & Crackers for Cheaters

Allan loves his Mother's chicken and crackers. It's chicken stew poured over crispy pastry like crackers. It's a bitch to make. I don't do pastry. Here's my version.

*Take a rotisserie chicken from the deli and pick out the meat. Add enough broth, carrots, celery, onion, parsely, salt and pepper to make it look stewy. Simmer one hour or until carrots are tender. Meanwhile unroll Pillsbury pie crust and cut into bite sized squares using a pizza cutter. Most 6 year olds can do this. Bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Serve with the chicken stew.
