I've gone a little coupon crazy. I've been thinking about why they appeal to me and I've come up with the following reasons:
*I've always loved a bargain. I used to read Penny Power magazine when I was a kid. From the library.
*I have an eye for detail. I can spot a 'do not double' a mile away.
*I've always loved scraps of paper. Just ask my Mom.
*I have a great memory. When I waltz by a clearance shelf I can instantly remember that I have a $2 off coupon for the item that's on clearance for $2.
*I'm a planner. I combine sales with coupons to get some screaming deals.
*I carry a big purse. My big coupon organizer fits in it and I get a lot of great deals on the fly.
*I send a lot of patients home on Sundays. It could be my stellar nursing skill on Saturday make them all better by Sunday or it could be that they see I'm going to be their nurse again and would rather check out or it could be that they schedule a lot of surgeries on Thursday…

Growing Up

I knew Tommy would seemingly grow up faster than the other boys. He can now grab toys and get them in his mouth. That and the recent discovery of his feet should keep him busy for awhile.

Nobody Cares What You Had For Lunch

That's the title of a book on blog topics. I clearly have not read that book. For breakfast I was glad that KFC had free grilled chicken yesterday because that's what we had for dinner leaving the mushroom omelet stuff available. I had a sauteed baby portobello, diced shallot and fresh thyme omelet with swiss cheese. Yum! Nobody else wanted any so I dirtied the dishes and took the time all for myself which made it taste all the better.

Bear With Me

I've always wondered.

Back to It

Whatever 'it' is, that is. After being a complete beast on Saturday (which I took off for the Pinewood Derby) Tommy decided to keep me up all night. I was feeling awful probably due to a combination of poor sleep and post travel exhaustion so I called in sick. I hope it isn't the swine flu.

Being home allowed me to witness Tom rolling from back to front for the first time. On his Grandma's birthday no less.

Alex celebrated his first morning back to school by downing FOUR Eggo waffles. I had better invest in either some cooking from scratch or Kellogg's stock.

Anyway, here I go, back to it. Vacation's over.

Ghost: Ha Ha!

Ghost: CPAP, Anyone?*

We've finally figured out what to do with all the old ill-fitting masks.
*No, I'm not posting at work, this is a ghost post because I didn't want to squeeze three in one day and dilute Alex's victory.

Trophy Boy

Third place Wolf for his district. Unfortunately he had a baseball game and was unable to attend the award ceremony. Busy, busy.

Earth Day

My Earth Day tip:
Register your unwanted catalogs at and cut down on junk mail. Now if I could only get Flor to stop sending me catalogs I'd surely save a tree.

Live From the Hotel

We're visiting Allan's family in Lancaster, PA. David picked up the hotel phone this morning to tattle on his cousin, "Allie hit Tommy to the head but Allie's Mommy sayed don't hit Tommy to the head, that's not nice!". And then he hung up, off to do his share of not nice things.

Now Here's a Crisis

This was posted to a local email list."Does anyone know of a welder that could do two welds on the exhaust manifolds of an inboard/outboard boat engine??

We need this done immediately, as we are opening our island summer house in 4 days. We would obviously pay to have this done...but, once again, we need it done probably over the weekend or by Tuesday at the lastest."
My heart bleeds for this person. Too bad I'm not a welder.

Ooh! Ooh!

Allan and I get so little time together and for the last five years I've noticed prime time TV is trash. And loaded with commercials. So aside from Survivor and the occasional Grey's Anatomy we have nothing to watch together. And I enjoy sitting down with him and watching something. Unfortunately I can't tolerate Mythbusters or Modern Marvels. And he probably feels the same way about anything I've recorded. So a friend recommended "The Tudors" and I rejoined Netflix to get season one. We watched two of them last night and both loved it. The best part is that there are at least 22 more episodes which means if we savor them we'll have 22 nights of entertainment. After they're gone I'd love some Netflix queue recommendations.

Road Songs

I'm in the process of making a CD for our trip to PA. Here's the playlist.

Shower the People by James Taylor
A Heart in New York by Art Garfunkel
Everything I Own by Bread
See the Changes by Crosby Stills & Nash
Longer Than by Dan Fogelberg
I Got a Name by Jim Croce
Lonely People by America
Garden Song by Peter, Paul & Mary
Moonshadow by Cat Stevens
House at Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins

And I plan to sing along.
Allan just booked himself a flight.

The Saucer

Yes, folks, I thought we were in need of another large piece of baby equipment cluttering up my living room.

Hand Socks

David loves to put socks on his hands. He takes them off of Tommy, claiming 'I want to see his cute feet' and then puts them on his own hands.

My Davids

My dentist is named David.
My ob/gyn is named David.
My optometrist is named David.
My pastor is named David.
Is it no wonder that I named one of my boys David?

Egg Hunt

Next year there will be no egg hunt for the big boys. They've outgrown it and it's too much work to have two parties in one day. Actually, I had two parties and then two families over for dinner. Our house is put back together and we have a quiet week scheduled. David had so much fun at his party once he figured out what he was supposed to do. And when Alex and his friends came over one of the friends' big sister came to help out and she took David by the hand and helped him find eggs and he loved having her one on one attention so much that he hunted a good 30 minutes longer than the 8 year olds and managed to find almost as many eggs. He and Tom can overlap parties for the next 5 years and then I'll only have 2 more to do. Which means I need to make my annual trek to Walmart this morning to get clearance Easter stuff. That's the best hunting at Easter in my opinion!

David & The Easter Bunny

Or as I put it to him-a person in a bunny costume.

Partly Cloudy and Fifty Four

We're having eighteen toddlers over for an Easter egg hunt tomorrow morning. And ten big boys in the afternoon.

I have much dog shit to clean up outside.

I pulled our musical Easter bunnies out of the basement and David has been hauling them around and pushing the buttons ever since.

I got two big cans of Pringles for seventy six cents at CVS yesterday. Sale price 88 cents each and I had a $1 off two coupon.

Since he turned four months we've tried to give Tommy a taste of banana, rice pudding and then oatmeal. He cried, spit and scowled. I'm amazed at how fat he's gotten on nothing but my milk.

Alex does not need glasses. Yet.

I do all the laundry except sheets, towels and diapers every Monday and Thursday. I like Thursdays better because there are only four loads instead of five.

Allan & Alex spotted a unique bird on our driveway and looked it up. It was a Roughed Grouse.

At his concert last week Alex's class sang Bob Marley's 'Three Little Birds&#…

Allison's Brown Sugar Chicken

12 boneless skinless chicken thighs or 6 boneless skinless breast halves
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon-lime pop*
2/3 cup vinegar
3 cloves chopped garlic
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp pepper

Add to crock pot. Cook on low 6-9 hours or high 4-5 hours. Serve over rice with a ladle of juice.
*Pop because it's her recipe, soda if it were mine.

Alex was wearing the same shirt last year.

Alex complained on Friday that he had trouble seeing the board in school and yesterday he had a headache. He has an eye appointment tomorrow morning.

I'm reminded of the time (in 5th grade?) when my mom and I were standing at the beginning of an aisle in the grocery store and she was reading the big sign in the middle and I said, "You can read that?!" and she said, "You can't?!" and shortly after that I had glasses. Eighties glasses. I'm shuddering to remember them.

Scou Scouts

Alex earned his Wolf badge at the last pack meeting. I missed most of it because I was wrestling a brown eyed badger.

4 Months

He's getting a tooth. It's not the usual one either, it's off to the side on the bottom. Since we took his binky away a week ago he's been putting his three middle fingers in his mouth a lot. And the night before last he slept from 11pm to a few minutes before 6am. He will spend an increasing amount of time on the floor and if you hand him a toy he'll grab it and start working it towards his mouth. I've already started collecting a few jars of baby food. I can't wait to compare his height and weight to his big brothers. Thomas, you complete our family in such a nice way.

Six Weeks Later

It's starting to slip but it still looks better than the before. We'll have to revisit in six months!
